Hello, one morning I went out into the yard and saw that the gas was yellow in places, and growing poorly.
Tell me what to do?
Welcome!

I'm in California too; over near Whittier.

Where in California are you? That might matter, because the first thing we need to do is ID your grass. Different grasses have different issues. And different grasses grow in different places in different ways. For example, "bentgrass" is a loser in So-Cal, but killer in San Francisco (assuming you have the room for it!)

And, please post overall and close up pictures of good grass and healthy areas.

Our esteemed @Old Thomas, @SPS-1 and @de-nagorg have all spoken the truth, but those truths are qualified by further facts.

The yellowing could be fungus, but it might also be annual weed grasses that died from last year, for one example. It might be growing poorly because of bad drainage, or too much, depending on the grass and circumstances.

We're here to help, and we hope you're okay and have plenty of love and toilet paper.
