An entire house of carpet is so yesterday. The problem is that new flooring can be expensive and you end up shelling out even more cash for installation. There are great ways to bring life to your new flooring by doing it all yourself. Here's our top DIY flooring solutions.

Laminate Flooring

Laminate flooring isn't the crazy patterned linoleum of yesterday. Laminate flooring is made of planks that snap together. They come in many different lengths and widths so you can choose a favorite. Many are wood-grain patterns, but you can also choose a solid color. Laminate is made of plastic so it isn't too expensive and is very easy to install. The best thing about this type of flooring is it is often resistant to scratches and stains making it one of the most durable flooring solutions.

Cork Flooring

Cork flooring has become a very popular choice for flooring. Cork is durable, affordable and looks great. It's harvested from oak trees, yet feels as if you're walking on a cloud. Cork flooring is available in plank and tile form. Some snap together while others need to be glued to the floor underneath. Cork is often resistant to stains. You can find it in many different varieties of color and even patterns.

Concrete Floors

Concrete flooring is beautiful, easy to maintain and not too hard to accomplish. The hardest part is actually polishing concrete flooring after its installation, as stains will be visible if you don't buff it. You have the option of scoring or actually cutting your concrete. If you don't have grout lines, you don't need to cut through the concrete. Purchase a staining kit in your favorite color. You can choose what type of effect you want whether glossy, marbled, etc.

Bottle Cap Floor

If you want to be creative and have a great time with flooring, go with a bottle cap floor. It's made with bottle caps from your favorite bottled beverages. It will take hundreds of caps so start collecting them early! You can also ask a local bar or eatery if you can have bottle caps they are going to throw in the trash. Applying them to the floor is as easy as preparing them above mortar, letting it dry then filling in holes with grout and sealer.

Vinyl Sheet

Floating vinyl sheet flooring is popular and easy to install. The sheets come in 12 foot rolls so it's easy to cover an entire room. The sheets are thicker than vinyl of the olden days so they are soft and durable. You do not even need to adhere the flooring to the base at all. It sticks to shoe molding around the room. Some of the sheets are so thick they look as good as area rugs in the middle of rooms.
