I'm moving furniture around in our living room and will move our wired phone from one location, closer to the wall outlet.
The standard white cable looks a little tired.
I have a yellow cable (computer use I'm guessing) with markings:

E354598 RL(backwards!) 2835 AWM 60C 30V VW-1 TIA/EIA
5688.2 CAT.5e UTP PATCH CABLE EEKSONG

It appears to have the same plug ends as the white version, can I use it or is it not suitable for simple phone use ?

It will work but I think if you compare the plugs you find they are larger and won't fit the phone jacks.
That is an ethernet cable that likeley has RJ45 plugs and you need RJ11 plugs.
