Some of the discussions such as the LED vs Incandescent bulbs remind me of the recent past.

My late Father's eyebrows raised considerably when tubeless tires first became popular and he never owned one. And for those early inventions where there was no AC power or those that folks that couldn't afford early AC powered compressors, there was an alternative to inflate the tire with the car engine.

The pic of the air pump, showing 2 adapters that replaced a spark plug, was may Father's. The wheel / tire pic is not one of my Father's. Actually I recall his being in a little better condition on the Model A.

The tire, which is actually holding air pressure, is on a 4 wheel trailer that was pulled approximately 8 miles on county dirt roads to to be auctioned at a consignment auction. My camera just leads me to pics like that.:biggrin2:

In the days of the Model T and the Model A, punctures (know today as a flat tire) were an accepted fact of motoring. When the Model T was introduced, only around 300 miles of paved roads existed in the entire country.

Punctures were so common that your spare (if you had one) could also end up flat, so you had to know how to patch a puncture and have patches on hand. I remember my father telling about a 30-mile trip to another town taking all day, with 3-4 punctures in each direction.

I think it would be an interesting to know who cobbled together the first "spark-plug air pump" and when.
