Is it better to use paste over teflon tape?

Does the teflon tape tear if a threaded fitting is turned adjusted a day later?

My preference is teflon tape over paste. I haven't heard of using them together. The tape does tear. If you redo the joint, you should replace the tape. As far as makeing a small turn in the threads goes, probably will not cause it to fail. You would just have to check and make sure it is not leaking.

That has been talked about quite a bit here.

It is important to understand that the primary purpose of tape or dope is not there to seal...but, reduce the friction so you can get more turns on the pipe. The tape and/or dope does provide a 'small' amount of sealing...but should not be depended on....

You also need to use the right tape. If your using black pipe for gas...use the yellow tape.

Not sure what the 'tearing' comment is about...if the tape is 'tearing', your doing it wrong. Any joint I have pulled apart, the tape has been squeezed into the threads.

I've spent hrs. upon hrs on a threader-- I always put on dope and tape, doesn't matter which goes on first, though I prefer dope first. Dope is impeded into threads and a couple wraps of tape :thumbsup:
