Hi all,

My tankless water heater has 1/2" gas and water lines going into it. A plumber tells me that this type of heaters should have 3/4" lines for water and gas. Is this true?. Will it make a big difference for the water heater to go from 1/2" to 3/4" specially with the gas line?

What size of fittings are on the heater. If it has 3/4" fitting that have been reduced down to 1/2 then he is probably correct. Or this could be a smaller unit than he is used to seeing that only needs the 1/2 inch.

The pipe size is based on the gas demand. MOST tankless units' demand is high enough to warrant 3/4" gaslines. There is no one-size-fits-all answer...It totally depends on the demand as well as the length of the pipe.
