I have a garage woodshop that needs a new circuit but the existing Murray 125 amp 8 circuit 4 space lug load center is full. There are some pretty high amp power tools in there but I of course never use more than one at a time so I'm not even sure another circuit is needed but figured it couldn't hurt. I have tried to see if I could use a tandem breaker but can't seem to get a clear answer. Is there an easy way to tell if this will work?

If it is a 4 space panel, but 8 circuits you can use tandem breakers for 120 volt loads.

There is a label inside the panel that tells you what can be put in. From your description it sounds as though a maximum of eight circuits are allowed. So you can use tandem breakers as long as you don't exceed eight circuits.
