Hello All,

First post and great site.

Can anyone tell me if those louver 5.5'x18" tall 2 sided gas wall heaters are still for sale?

I have an older one with just a gas on/off valve and not the city is saying the heater must have a thermostat for me to use it. So I need to replace this one. The current heater will heat two rooms and is mounted on the same common wall.

I tried to search for "gas wall heater" but no luck on finding anything close to what I currently have.

I'm in the Los Angeles CA area.

Any help would be grateful.

that unit or types like it are self contained the thermostat is within the furnace on the lower part with a sensing bulb...here is a site but they are still made espically for apts doing 2 rooms mounted in one wall as yours is... http://www.google.com/products/cata...a=X&ei=-0_MTdieH8qJ0QHh2dHjBA&ved=0CFgQ8wIwAw#

Thanks Biggles,

I called the local HD and they have one. It's a little deeper than what I hoped for at 6 inch, but better than nothing!!

I really appreciate the reply!

wall heater

Williams 5009622 Ceramic Gas Wall Mounted Panel Heater is available for sale at Home Depot for $577. Has wall mount thermostat. If no store is close, you can have it shipped yourself. I have the same type myself and this is the only one I have found. It is a ceramic element heater.

Thanks...I looked at those and they stick out of the wall 6 inches. After taking measurements I realized that this heater will take up to much of the aisle in the small hallway.

Is there a way to convert the old wall heater to a thermostat switch vs the current on and off (so the gas company will be happy? As I mentioned in my original post.

Thanks

You might be able to add a more modern gas valve, a transformer, and safety system along with a thermostat.

The retro could cost 6 bills or more in parts though.

There is a mechanical automatic gas valve, that you may or may not be able to retro in, they go for around 3 bills wholesale. So you'll pay a fair bit more for it.
