We recently had a contractor replace our downspouts because of a leak in the top s piece. The main straight part of our downspout has always been one piece. When they replaced they put on the wrong color and had to re do.

When they re did it they used two pieces instead of one 10ft section and screwed it together. The added piece is about 1 ft. from the bottom. See pics

Does this look tacky/unprofessional to anyone else?
All the other condos on our property are all one piece...

:vs_OMG:

Ed,

thanks for the reply. We did notice the cut it sticks out and thats not the way it was originally. The company that did the work owns a supply house and does retail work. If a downspout was one whole piece when they replaced it and now 2 pieces to me its tacky work.

Have you asked their service rep about the oddity.

Sometimes a nice inquiry will get better results than a tyrannical rant about sub-standard work.

Remember that I am not saying that you are ranting now.

I do agree that it looks odd the way it is. And should have been a single run, not spliced.

Ed,

Here is the response I got by email..

this is the way we do our downspouts. It is easier to get into the underground tiles cause they are not against the buildings all the time and it is easier to clean out the tiles by just taking off the short piece of downspout. This does not effect the performance of the downspout in anyway,we do this on hundreds of jobs every year and 99% of all customers appreciate it. Thank You Mark

MAYBE I SHOULD BE RANTING WE PAID THEM 500K

500K ? That's a lot of money .

And If you are not happy, You should get satisfaction.

Tell them that you want it to match every other downspout.

Mention that the Condo Association is up in turmoil over your un-matching downspout.

The email was from our property manager here on site. To me its a joke to get downspouts in two pieces when the rest of the property is all one piece. then for the contractor to say their reason is

eh.. i get the principle of getting bent about it.. but it doesn't bother me.. I don't know how many people spend time checking out how their neighbors downspouts are constructed.. the color matches.. it functions fine.. its like getting pissed about a pimple on your ass... you know its there so it bugs ya but nobody else cares..
