My old ballast (T12) has 1 white 1 black 1 red 1 blue - new electronic (T12) has 1 white 1 black 2 blues 1 red. - wired by diagram and still does not work. should I swap ends with my blue wires and my red or buy a new fixture? thanks

Depends on what lamps. 8' fixtures are end specific, while most 4' are not.

Anything important will be on the label and diagram.

Would it not be better to convert to T-8 lamps & ballast. I keep hearing on the radio that they (the "Black Helicopters") are banning the manufacture of T-12 lamps.

Did you try new tubes as well?
Is there 120 volts on the input?

I am pretty sure that is slimline ballast and they are very specfic the way it hook up and they are pretty tricky to do the troubleshooting.

Basically do you actaually have 120 volt working ?

If so then follow the connection diagram and as I mention if this is a slimline { single pin bulb type } the power end will be at stationary side so please pay attetion to that location first and also when you remove the bulb it will automatique cut the power off to the ballast but from the source to the tombstone will be alive if the power source is there.

The spring end just be extra carefull not to get the red et bleu crossed and follow the diagram very carefull how it hook up.

One major warning the secondary voltage is over 650 volts { this is true with either magatinc or electronique ballast }

Second thing did you get the correct ballast due some are 277 volt input as well so please post the ballast model number we can do little more checking for you if you need to.

Most of the T-12 bulbs are phasing out there are few will stay in the market if they have high colour retating and couple other circita to meet.

All the T-12 flourscent luminaire over 90% of the time I either reballast to T-8 or get new flourscent luminaire depending on the age and how it set up.

A 4 footer T-8 will keep about the same light level as old school 60/75 watts T-12 slimline even with some HO{ high output }

The VHO or SHO { very high output or super high output } is pretty much done for it I will not bother mess around too much unless special appaction.

Check the ballast drawing to JV's photo drawing if that is the same or not and as I mention if you have slimline that may change the way it connected.

this is the way I did it. I have 110v. I have new bulbs but doesn't mean they can't be bad. also, I guess it could be a bad ballast. I got it from home depot. I have bought stuff from there not knowing it had been returned. I think I will just get a new fixture. thanks for the help.

That drawing look like a T8 connections. T12 usually has doesn't have the pins connected together like that.

That is the same diagram for a 2/96 electronic ballast.

found problem

brand new ballast was bad.(I think it had been returned) brand new bulbs were also bad.

Wired my new ballast as the diagram showed on this forum. Using an Advance Model 1CN-2P60-SC electronic ballast. Two 8' tubes. They light up but the ends are brighter than the middle of the tubes. What happened?

Normal operation for NEW T8 lamps. Let them run for several hours and the light should even out.

That ballast is for T12 lamps.

They will also be dim in the middle until after a few minutes to "warm up"
