Synthetics are expensive
I'm probably going to be roof shoping in the not to distant future. Approximately how much more should I plan on for a product like Symphony or DaVinci slate compared to an architechtural shingle? 20%, 40%, 2X?
Our company has been installing synthetics for about 5 years, Roof Roc(no longer availlable), Davinci, Inspire.
New construction on an easy pitch $9.50 sq ft
Conversion from cedar $11.50 sq ft
Steep pitches as much as $14.50 sq ft if they are cut up
Basically 300 - 400% more than asphalt
Most synthetics are plastics & I would hesitatate to put them on in hot climates. The more moderate the climate, the less chance of warping.
The manufacturers say the don't but they are plastic.
The exception may be Inspire with 50% limestone & molded with a substantial curve.
All of the current products seem to perform well in my climate (British Columbia)
Fire Free was a product with wood fibre in it that I think has gone by the wayside. I have never put it on & I have not yet seen it last more than 8-10 years.
