I am planning to replace all the plumbing beneath our kitchen sink. The drain pipe into the wall is too high and long, and at a bad angle, so I am thinking about installing the kitchen disposal on the left side instead of the usual right side of the sink. This way I can arrange the plumbing in a more intelligent fashion (the way it is now is terrible).

I don't think this change would be a big deal, but I am not an experienced plumber. Could there be any possible problem with this change?

If the drain line coming out wall is to high for proper drainage for the p traps then you either have to get a shallower sink or lower the drain line.

If the p trap drains are higher than what is coming out wall you will either have to get deeper seal traps,install a shallower bowl sink or lower the waste pipe coming out of the wall.

shallower sink is an interesting option, but I have lots of dishes!

I don't want to change the drain pipe, because that stuff is all old galvanized pipe.

I may barely make it work if I switch the disposal to the left side.
