Hello!! I just moved into a new house and there is surround sound speakers and controllors in the walls and ceilings of each room (even outside). While this excites me greatly, I do not know where/how to hook up a stereo to them? In the basement there is a bundle of wires in a closet. Probably around 20.

What time of equipment does this hook into?
Is this the sort of thing I can do by reading directions on a piece of stereo equipment or do I need to hire someone?

I am pretty handy around the house and would LOVE to save some money (I Mean who wouldn't these days!) If anyone can help or give me a lead, I would really appreciate it. Thank you :thumbsup:

First you need to find out where the wires go to and what kind of controllers you have.

Some controllers (switches and/or "volume" controls) work directly with speaker wires where you connect one end of the cable (two wires) to the speaker output of the amplifier or receiver and the other end to a speaker unit.

Are all the wires the same type ?
If so they are most likely speaker wires.
But some could be input wires.
Have a look and find out.
I am guessing that they are speaker wires,
It makes good sense to put them in whilst building the house.
Are they marked, so you know where they go to ?
If not it will be fun to identify them (but not impossable).
