Help me settle an argument. My wife thinks I need support for the ledger board attached to the wall (left side). You can see I put one in to keep her happy buy I want to take it out. The span is about 10 feet. The ledger is fastened with five 4 1/4 lag screws to the 2 x 4 framing. Galvanized hangers with galvanized nails. Whole thing is 2 by six framing. Do I need to support the ledger beyond the lag screws? The other side I built a wall.

I think you are talking about the post, I would leave it there. You could argue the point for ever, consider what would prove it. There would nothing worse than what she would say with all that stuff landing on the car.

The ultimate way for a woman to prove a point. Looks like they are staying :vs_laugh:

If it were to be a problem, this doesn't make sense with only (1) 4x4 under one ledger side, not both. And a 4x4 because you want to support the end joist, but if you can't rely on the hangers we're all in trouble.

Just put a 2x4 flat on the wall tucked under each end of the ledger (header joist), resting on the foundation wall, and screwed vertically to the 2x4 stud inside the wall.

Right that one 4 by 4 was for show. I most likely will do as guy suggest. It can’t hurt.
