I want to run Electric in my garage. I was told by an electrician that i need 6/4 wire. The onlyplace that i found it was at grainger and it was the most expensive thing i have ever seen in my life. Is that the only wire that i could use and if so is there a cheaper place to buy it?

The size wire you install for the garage sub panel is determined by the size of the breaker that feeds it, and your electrical demands/needs in the garage. What will you have in the garage? This information is what we need to know before we can advise you on panel size and conductors.

Ever notice how one guys says something then a bunch of other guys say the same thing :jester:

You need 6/3 with ground, not 6/4

Wait...detached. You should run PVC and individual #6's THWN. 2 blacks, 1 white and a #10 green ground. Also, drive a ground rod or two.

Grainger is not a place you want to buy wire....or anything. Home Depot.
