The intent is to put in a Sub Panel in a detached Shed/Pool House. This Sub Panel will feed a Pool Pump, as well as potentially a Spa in the future, and some utility outlets in the Shed.

I'm aware of the requirement of using a green encased ground wire for Pool and Spas.

My question is if the Ground wire from the main to the Sub Panel must be a Green THWN, or is bare acceptable ?

Will the feed be run underground or overhead?

If underground in conduit then it must be THWN & insulated
Or possibly a direct burial cable/or cable in large conduit
You will also need (2) grounding rods - 6' apart - at the shed
Neutrals & grounds must be kept on separate bus in the sub
Neutral bus not grounded to the case

A feeder for a pool panel must have an insulated ground and be run in conduit all the way back to the main panel.

Some jurisdictions do not allow homeowners to install any wiring for pools or spas (such as the entire state of Delaware).

Be sure to check with your local permit/inspection authority to ensure you are able to install DIY wiring for such purposes.

Thanks all - Speedy's answer is really what I was looking for. I had seen information that a pool run could have bare wire ground until it got outside. Since this will be a true sub-panel in the shed, then to a pool, I was just curious if this made a difference. It will be underground in conduit.

Permits and ground rods are planned !

Yes, this exception is true for a motor branch circuit.
No so for feeders though.
