Got this swing last fall and loved it except it had big barrel springs and half the time when I sat down (on the end) the spring popped off.

This week I thought I solved the problem by removing the barrel springs. No. My daughter sat on the end and a chain came off the big hook thats in the frame.

I could live with it but don't want n elderly person to sit down and be startled if that happen.

Maybe the big hooks are suppose to be flush against the frame?

I can't help you, but love the title, along with other DIYers' "Broken leg," "Help, I . . ." & so on. :wink2:

But, what if when the weight of a body is on the seat, it causes the chain to loosen & pop off. Would pliers closing the hook opening help? I only see the photos upside down.

It seems photos taken with my IPad are normal except on this site where they turn when posted.

This swing is redwood and heavy so when I have to lift the front or back up to put the chain back on its hard to do. Then, when I get that first rogue chain on, another pops off.

I never had to do this in the past with other swings. And, in the past I never looked at how the chains were attached either.

I tried to correct the photos but since Windows 10 decided that I had to go that version, it is a learning curve I haven't got the hang of yet. Sorry.

Well I got one to flip but I can't get the other one to flip. I will try again.

I don't see how the chain could come off but like Joe said, close the gap with a pair of pliers.

Either close up the hook, or rotate it 90 Degrees to where the opening is up instead of down.

A new thought, replace the hook with a screw-eye, then get a chain link with a barrel nut to screw them together.

Went looking for that chain link, but the danged link to the website, did not copy and follow me here.

The chain link is called a QUICK LINK, used to hook chains to screw eyes.

Big Jim, appreciate you fixing the photos. When the chain comes off its at the opposite end from where someone sits. It happens when you 'plop' down on the seat, not if you gently sit down.

OK, lots of good ideas. Those barrel springs (at the end of the chains) I removed were nice so now with all these ideas I may be able to put them back on and not have them pop off.

Thank you all.

I see what you mean now about how the chains are coming off. Others have already said how to solve that. Sorry I couldn't flip that one picture, I need to do some research on how to make my photo program get the menu back at the top with this new Windows deal.
