Hi All,

Newbie here. I am hanging a 75” TV above my fireplace. The TV plus mount weighs 80lbs.
I found 2 studs above the mantle but they are facing wide side out.
They are 3 inches wide. I drilled starter holes and about 1.5 inches in I hit air. So it went all the way through.
Any ideas why the studs would be facing this direction? And will lag bolts have enough grip inserted through the thin side of the studs to hold the TV?
Appreciate any assistance!

Thanks!

Chris

Often they are turned sideways when there isn't 3 1/2" for the other way.

They should hold the weight no problem. You may want shorter bolts so you don't run out of threads.

These are running vertical. It is the frame behind/around a fireplace above the mantle.
There are two of these 3inch wide side boards spaced 24" center to center.
Any concern with mounting on these?

Is it one of those that allows you to pull the TV 15 or 18 inches from the wall and angle it, or just a tilt mount, where the TV is only a couple inches from the wall? That will make a big difference in what you'll need to do to connect it to the studs.

It is a mount where the TV sits about 2.5 in from the mount when flush.
It does tilt and allows pulling the TV away up to 5 inches. But I do not plan to have it pulled away or tilted.
Since the frame is a fireplace frame, I know these studs in the middle of the mantle don't run to the floor. Any issues with what these studs are connected to on the bottom?
