[Carpet]

I'm painting my room and I noticed my wall has a strange texture that I can't work around, it's seen by zooming in center of the picture. The texture is a grit that creates a pit effect, this pit changes how the paint looks with light by making it appear darker than the surrounding smoother areas, if the grit is closer together then the paint doesn't have the pit effect. I've sanded and applied multiple coats of flat paint, but it's still noticeable.

It's almost as if my wall once had textured wallpaper as there are visible seams about every 4 feet that I've been trying to hide (sand, scrap, mud, etc).

Is the only way to get rid of this to apply mud over the affected areas? The house was made in the 80s.

maybe a rolled on orange peel ??
Best way to get rid of the texture is to skim coat the wall. It doesn't need to be thick, just enough to fill the texture.

Thanks, I tried that out and it got rid most of the cruddy spots. Another skim of mud and paint coat in some spots should be enough. Orange peel is very similar to the texture, they were like miniature squares.
