Good afternoon. I'm living in a new home and the warranty from the builder just ran out a month ago. We haven't had any issues until last night. We had a steady rain, nothing to extreme, when I noticed the front door had a tiny stream of water running down on the inside of the house. At first I thought the door may be sweating. Upon further investigation I noticed the ceiling was wet above the door in 3 spots. This was at 11:30 after a long day, so I left it alone for the night. I checked it out this morning, after the rain, and the door was dry, and the sheetrock on the ceiling *appeared * to be dry. I crawled into the attic and tried to trace it down, but that area is basically impossible to reach. I don't think I left any details out. Just fyi, the ceiling is cathedral, so it almost seems like the water ran down the sheetrock into the header of the door. I'm not sure though.

Need some pictures of the outside of the door area and the roof in that area.
Live in an area where there's snow and ice on the roof?

a pitch change with a valley that takes a dog leg. Somebody screwed up something in there. If I could get up on the roof I bet I could find the screw up in 15 minutes....or 2-4 screw ups any of which could cause the problem.

If it is the ridge vent you should be able to see staining on the the rafter or the sheathing above that area.
Only time I've see a ridge vent leak is if someone cut the roof to far back.
Should only be cut back 2" on each side, max.

I chased a leak on a similar roof before I found the problem.

Rain was coming off the pitched gable on the right and found its way under the shingles on the lower front extension. It was getting under at a joint in the shingles and migrating to the underlay.
Rain would run horizontally across the shingles till it found its way in at a joint.
The one I repaired did have Ice & Water under it but after years of the nail heads getting and staying wet,the rusted to a point where it compromised the seal.It took about twelve years to leak.
After the next rain see if you can lift a couple of shingles on the lower pitched roof to see if it is wet above the butt of the shingle.
