Can someone explain please why a hole in some broken blocks in a step out is okay not to fix? I am told a step out is used when going from a basement height of 8' or more to a crawl space of lesser height. We are selling our house and I worry about this hole I found. Thanks:(

Step Out

Scuba Dave: No I don't have a picture. I'm told anyone who knows construction will know what the step out is. I do know its when you are going from an 8' or larger to a crawl space of lesser feet.

I've been remodeling for almost 30 years, but I'm not familiar with the term. Could be a term masons use.

Step Out

Ron6519 - It is a term used with block basements from what I'm told. I imagine it can also be done with poured concrete. Anyway the hole was caused from chopping a hole and putting in a gas line. It was never filled in. I had a contractor come and replace the opening with brick today. So I think its resolved. Thanks to you and everyone else that replied. Tomorrow is our inspection for the sale and we'll see if it passes.

:)
