Our patio roof is steel slats that interlock, extending from the house exterior wall to the outer edge of the patio. I have a sense it’s quite heavy.

Rusty, it leaks. Plus, on a hot Southern California day it absorbs and radiates heat so much, you can’t really be comfortable. Steel was not a good material selection, though maybe at the time there was nothing better.

I think there are Lightweight compounds I can brush, roll or spray on, that will insulate, seal the leaks and provide a better reflective surface.

If so, problem solved, for the short term.

Has anybody tried anything like this? If someone can advise what to use, we would be grateful. And any advice on application.

Thanks.

Windows,
Thanks for replying. The rust is pinholes. And at my age, I’m literally beyond looking for solutions I might have embraced in my Sixties, I just need something that will keep the heat off and in winter stop the leaks, for a couple of years or so.

But I take it from your reply that no such thing that will insulate a bit and seal holes, exists.

Tried to include a photo but my OS doesn’t really do URLs for photos. Sorry.

The coat overs are only suitable if the metal is suitable.
Thanks. Even if I’m still around, in a couple years this will come down for a better choice. But if whatever I use lasts that long, I’m good.

Nobody is paying me, nobody will sue me, and that stuff looks like it was manufactured during WWII, by a tank builder. So the coating may be what I choose, or fiberglass panels.

For the pin holes, you can try silicone caulk.
For the rust and heat? replacement. If you are not in a windy area, those plastic corrugated panels in white could help.
Thanks. As heavy-duty as the patio roof appears, it’s 12x14 with only edge support. So I’m not venturing out with my little tube of silicone lol.

But I like your suggestion of corrugated panels, Which would solve all three problems AFAICT. A Threefer!

A light color would insulate admirably and reflect. Off to price the solution.
