I need to build a steep stairway inside a garage. I am limited to 146" for the total run. The total rise is 132". Can someone help with the rise and tread? All help is very appreciated.

i hope you didn't build your stairs yet.

There is always one less run than rise. The correct answer is 16 rises at 8.25" and 15 treads at 9.73". However, you may want to check with your building codes, I think minimum on a tread is 10" and max on a rize is 8".

I do believe you're right. As far as I know it's been 8" on the rise and 10" on the tread. I don't think so, but perhaps your state is different. If that doesn't fit perhaps you can make your opening a little larger. How tall is the ceiling. Maybe we can suggest another idea.

Two steps to a platform with a 90 degree turn put me into compliance one time when space was a restriction.
