I currently have a temporary stairs and would like to add Treads/Risers and Skirts. What are the steps to do this.. I would assume that I take out the current treads. Add the skirts (3/4 by 12 by 14ft) on each side. Then Risers. Then treads. This sounds easy but have not done this before. Is their any problems to look for.?? This is my first post... Thanks a lot... John

Got a picture?
Is the drywall already in place?
Did someone install a 2 X 4 behind the stringer to make room for drywall and a skirt?

just like Joe mentioned, drywall over the studs and then the skirt against the drywall, (the skirt is simply the baseboard turned to go up the stair angle)-usually there is a 2x4 cleat between stair stringer and the stud wall that the cleat attaches to. this cleat allows space for wall covering and wall trim skirting and results in full stringer thickness for the support of the stair step treads.
