I need to build a stair from the kitchen to the patio. See pictures. Any ideas how I can build it? Is some type of landing box better than couple of stair steps? Thanks for your help. Height from kitchen floor to the patio is 16"

you could build a couple of boxes and stack them up. However you will need to use a lot more material than just making stringers. You will need 3 rises at 5-5/16". Two rises at 8" will work but is probably not to code. this may not be an issue. Try to keep a 10" run. Rember to deduct the thickness of your tread material from the bottom of your stringers or platform.

Most people prefer a landing at least 3 feet wide at an entry door---then the stairs----

It is extremely difficult to unlock and open a door while standing on a step.

In my work area code also requires one.

There are many books and posts on cutting stair stringers----The 'Little Blue Book' comes with some framing squares----That free book offers a very simple explanation of rise/run and construction methods.--Mike--

As Mike said, minimum code is minimum safety. (you'll want that for your Homeowners Insurance carrier to honor any fall claims...)

R311.3 Floors and landings at exterior doors. There shall be a landing or floor on each side of each exterior door. The width of each landing shall not be less than the door served. Every landing shall have a minimum dimension of 36 inches (914 mm) measured in the direction of travel. Exterior landings shall be permitted to have a slope not to exceed 1/4 unit vertical in 12 units horizontal (2-percent).
