We have 13 stairs that lead upstairs to the bedrooms. They are very squeaky when you walk on them. Since we are getting new carpet installed on Tuesday we thought we could fix the squeaks (since we already removed the existing carpet and pad). My husband tried everything... drilling screws into the stairtread, adding shims to the gaps between the treads and wood, and adding screws to the front of the wood all to help stabilize it. Even after all this, it still squeaks!! Not all stairs make nose but most do. What else can we do to fix this issue???
Thanks for any help or insight you can offer....

If your husband has done all that and they still squeak, I would suggest taking the treads up, glue everywhere wood touches wood and renail them in place.
