I have this exact same pvb; this is a new house and I’ve never had any irrigation system before.

Couple of YouTube videos later I’m trying to turn her on for the spring!

But water keeps coming out the bottom! Just what am I doing wrong? Or maybe can someone walk me through what to do step by step?

Turn the water on slowly but 100%. Water will come out of back flow preventer valve for a few seconds and then stop. If the water does not stop....valve needs replacing and/or rebuilding.

I think I have everything turned in correctly but the water still only flows out of the bottom… Is there supposed to be some sort of plugin the bottom thing?

If it's threaded, It needs a 1/2 inch male threaded plug. Wrap with Teflon tape.

Plug the open hole at the bottom. It may have been left open as a drain. Glue and/or screw in a piece of pipe or a threaded nipple so you can attach a shut off valve. The PRV may be plumbed backwards...........I have never seen one feed from the bottom and exit the top. Check for arrows on the valve for water flow.
