So I replaced a sprinkler head that had broken and was gushing water straight up and as soon as I fixed it and went to turn the water on the sprinkler head next to it shot up and starting gushing water. Any ideas?

How old is your system? It may be time to just replace all of the heads, they wear out over time and need to be replaced. It's not that expensive if you can do it yourself.

Msradell is prolly right, old heads, they don’t last forever. Also suggest double checking pressure, too much pressure causes failure. Even if on city water source pressure is still on homeowner to manage.

I was breaking 6-8 heads a year until I put a pressure regulator at the main valve. Haven't lost a single one since then.

First check your sprinkler system pressure.
If your pressure is more than 80, you need a pressure reducing valve, as mentioned above.
Install a PRV before you change heads.

How do you fix a toro sprinkler head that only rotats part time. I start it moving & then on the way back around it will stop?

But to answer your question, you don't fix it, you replace it.

Unless maybe you just started your system for the first time since winter today. I have had a head stick a little on season start up --- give it a little help and it kept going.
