Hello Everyone! I am looking to install landscape lighting (Low voltage) which will have a step down transformer. Most of the ones I saw have a plug that has to be connected to a GFCI outlet.

I don't have any outlet nearby but there is a floodlight mounted on a junction box. Can I cut the transformer cord plug, thread it through a 1/2" or 3/4" inch PVC and into the box ensuring the seams are waterproofed?

Attached is the floodlight image. I was thinking of removing the screw at the bottom and threading PVC from there.

Just add a receptacle from a new conduit fed out of the open knockout on the floodlight box.

Nothing requires a GFCI *outlet*. GFCI devices are able to protect other outlets fed off of them. So a GFCI device in location X can protect a plain outlet at location Y, at which point Location Y is also GFCI protected. That will satisfy the requirement in the instructions.

It works best to put GFCI devices indoors so they don't get thrashed by the weather.

If you tap into that flood light I would think then that your landscape lighting would be dependent on the fact if that flood light was on or off. Meaning the flood light would have to be on for the landscape lighting to be on and the landscape lighting would go off when you switch the flood light off.

you cant cut plug of any transformer/appliance, it will void is UL listing

True and I am looking at converting the floodlight to a motion sensor one. that way both could just stay on the same switch. Ideal would be to have a separate wire altogether for the LV lights and use the photocell for turning them On / Off but I don't have an easy way to pull a new wire

Update: I made the necessary additions / changes and attaching the results. Ty for all the help! I changed the floodlights to motion sensor ones.

Next is to add the transformer and run the LV wires around.
