Repairing water line in an old home where galvanized has burst. Is there an easy way to attatch pvc to an unthreaded piece of galvanized??

They make these I am not sure how good they are. Just slip the pipes into the ends and tighten the nuts. I do not if you can get the steel ones at hardware stores but i know some have the pvc ones.

Also remember that if you have galvinized pipe after you fix one section others will start to leak. You will eventualy have to replace it all.

Is PVC only ok for cold water lines and not hot? I thought I saw that somewhere.

I did not think of that. Yes I believe pvc is for cold only, you have to use cpvc for hot water.
