If you are sandwiching beams to the post for a deck, where can you splice long beam runs and how? Beams are 2x10 and post are 4x4 and only about 12” above ground. I have about a 30’ run with 5 post using 16’ 2x10s. Will need to splice does it have to be on a post, please explain all my options and how – thank you all

Join then at a post and try not to join both side at the same post.

Beam Layout

As I understand your spacing you will have (on any one beam run) 5 posts so they will divide the 30 foot run into 4 spaces. Therefore any space will be 7.5 feet. More important the center post will be 15 feet from either end. Perfect for 16 foot 2x10s. Lap your 2x10s at the center post and let the excess length extend a foot beyond the center post. No cutting required of the beams.

joints can either be directly over the post or within the 1/4 points.. meaning that they must be within 1/4 of the span between posts.. if you have one 1/4 joint on one end start the next lam from that end to break up the joint

also.. why are you using a 4x4 for the post especially if its 12' high. in most regions all posts carrying a beam must be 6x6. 4x4's are only good for hand rail posts

beam splices need to land on posts. If as Budprine suggests you have 7'.5" spacing between posts then set as a single section a fifteen foot 2x centered outward from the middle post and then fill the ends in. Next, set the other section(build the beam in two parts) so the splice lands on the center post. You want to have a minimum of 1 1/2" bearing at all bearing points...
