Hey all - I've got a band practice room in my basement. It's all digital stuff, run through a PA so we don't have booming bass or acoutstic drums. Effectively, it's exactly like just playing a CD through a very loud PA.
The basement is finished with a drywall ceiling.
The first floor right above it is carpeted. You can definitely hear the sound up there - but it's actually not too bad.
Go up to the second floor where all our bedrooms are - and the sound becomes more faint. You can't sing along with the song - and really can only hear some occasional lows/thumps and the beat. It's definitely not enough to wake somebody up - but is just barely enough to make it annoying.
The ceiling above the band space is not insulated since it's interior. So I'm wondering if I could cut some holes in the ceiling drywall and have insulation blasted in. It's also a tray ceiling with soffets for the HVAC. Somehow it would seem to make sense to blast that full as well.
However - I know there is a void there. And I thought voids did a good job deadening sound as well. Maybe insulation really wouldn't make a difference.
I want to avoid using the foam acoustic tiles on the outside for asthetic reasons.
