I am building a solid oak (8/4 x 10 stock) with a finished size of 1.75 x 9.75 x 50" and would like some mounting ideas. It will incorporate 2 corbels mounted to sheetrock over 2 x 4 stud framing. I want to keep it clean which means no molding hiding hardware. Any ideas will be helpfull.

Long hanger bolts used the same way as rail bolts are used when building hand rails.
Counter bore holes in the under side so you can get a nut on the bolt and plug the hole with 1" plugs.

Is it for a fireplace? Have you considered wrought iron brackets?
Our daughter has a brick FP in her family room with wrought iron
brackets and its a nice look.
We also have a shelf in our foyer with wrought iron brackets
and I like the look.

oops...I just re-read your post and see that you're using corbels.

If u r opening Sheetrock u can either use double threaded bolts and insert into oak and put 2x6 on fkat between studs with a whole for bolt with nut snd washers n inside but that is tight. Or notch your studs 1 1/2 thick by couple inches higher than mantle then screw 2x material to mantle leaving some exposed above and below so u can. Screw into studs.
