Hope this question is not too far out of scope for this forum.

We have a pool and would like to heat it from the sun. We plan to build a fake black rock waterfall with a pool of water feeding it from the top. If it runs all the time, it will actually cool off the pool when the temps are colder. I’m looking for some sort of thermostat / timer combination that would work like this.

The thermostat sensor would be placed in the pool of water at the top of the fall. When the temp hits, say 85 degrees (adjustable of course), it turns on the electric current that goes through a timer that will keep it running for again, say 30 minutes (adjustable again). This way I only circulate water through my fake black rock feature when the sun is heating up the structure.

Does anyone have any idea what parts I should be looking to put together for something like this?

Where are you located ?
How big is your pool -gallons ?
I'm not sure how much heating you will get from a fake rock waterfall
I use a 4x12 panel to heat my hot tub to 105+ in the summer
I also use several 2x20' panels to heat my inground pool ~19,000 gallons
I've had the pool up to 96 in the summer

We are in the north east corner of Maryland. We are doing this as much for the water feature as for the heat. As long as we are adding the water feature, might as make it somewhat functional. Runnign it when the sun is not on it will cool down the pool and we don't want that!

Put the thermostat in the coolest section of the black structure where the sun does not hit the thermostat even if the thermostat is at the bottom of an open tank of water.

Papageek.,

I will suggest that you talk to Scuba Dave if you need more details and I know there were a pretty good details on what he did with pool solar and spa panels IMO they did dammed good job to keep the water very warm few case more than anyone will expected how much it perforaced.

So either post the message or PM him either way he will help you with details if you are instering with it.

Merci,
Marc
