softener resin?

I just bought a Morton M34 Water Softener. When running bath water, a light brown/yellowish sand type substance is piling up near the drain. When I bypass the water softener, this does not happen. The people at Morton told me to return it because the distributor was ruptured. So I did, which was extremely difficult. I exchanged it and installed a new one. The substance is still there! Could I really have gotten 2 defective water softeners?

i wanted to post a picture, but it won't let me

That definitely sounds like resin.
It could be that the resin has piled up in the hot water tank and needs to be flushed out. Try running just the cold and see if you get it.

yeah, it happens with the cold too.
Looks like resin.
I suppose if there was a manufacturing flaw it could be in more than one unit.

What is the water pressure in your house? If it is too high maybe that is contributing to the issue.

I'm not sure -- its seems normal. How do I test the water pressure?
Crap, I'm a huge idiot! It's hooked up backwards.... is the softener screwed up permanently now?
Depends how much of the resin got pumped out.
