I have just purchased a 1941 2 story house, that needs some TLC and personality. But before I can get to the fun stuff, I need to replace the subfloor in the downstairs small bath/utility room.
The flooring in the small stand-up shower is getting soft. So is the flooring behind the old fashioned radiator and washer/dryer nook.
The previous owner appeared to be in the process of fixing it, and said he would complete the job, but that was 4 months ago. And now he's incognito (the jerk).
I know how to remove/take out the toilet, small cabinets, appliances, and the floor trim/baseboards. But the shower stall and radiator is giving me a headache.
Do I treat the radiator like the toilet and if so, how? Or do I cut the subfloor away and replace in pieces?
And can I take out the shower stall/tub (it's one of those molded pan types w/ the vinyl walls and nook and I believe it's glued) w/o destroying it?

You may want to post this in another forum, such as the remodeling forum.

The flooring forum tends toward discussions about the merits and how-to of various kinds of floor coverings -- tile, hardwood, etc. Your questions are more generally about remodeling.

As to your questions, you may as well unhook and move the radiator and plug the pipes while you work on that area.

The shower should come apart if it's a pan with wall pieces. It may be caulked, nailed at the edge and held in by surrounding sheetrock, but it's probably not glued. But then I've never taken apart one of those.
