So I just ripped out an old 1980's molded shower. Is it common to put in a freestanding soaker tub in a 34/60 inch nook? I didn't want the standard drop in tub.

No it's not a normal thing to do. It would be very difficult to clean the floor on the wall side of your claw foot.

I've seen it done in some pretty nice higher end homes. However, the people that own these places didn't do their own cleaning or paint the walls and trim behind the tub like I had to. Not fun.
