I have a cat that likes to pee in my upholstered chair. She has done it several times and I have tried to clean it with baking soda, vinegar and many other products. I don't believe that any of these treatments has removed any of the urine. When the chair dries, it dries very hard and still smells. I would like to try and get all of the things I used and the urine out of the fabric. I was thinkin on getting a shampooer so that I could try and vacuum some of urine and stuff out of it. I don't know what the best one would be to buy and I don't want to pay a whole lot for it. It is very soiled. Can anyone help me with this.

I've been posting on boards like this long enough to know that a product called "Nature's Miracle" apparently works wonders for removing pet urine. I think you can buy it at some pet stores.

Also, you should be aware that the urine of all mammals flouresces under ultraviolet light. Several companies, including BaneClene make ultraviolet lamps specifically for locating pet urine and assessing how well the clean-up regimen is working. A web site called "CleanFax" caters to the janitorial industry, and you should be able to find articles on locating and cleaning up pet urine using an ultraviolet light with the search engine on CleanFax's web site at:

Our cat went all over our bed, it was horrible, we tried everything including having a steam leaning company use the pet disinfectant on it and nothing worked. We threw it out and got a new one. I have used the natures miracle on floor stains and when my wife's cat was going on our couch and it worked wonderfully. Good luck, I will never have a cat again after our last is gone it just seems like when they get sick they think the house is their litter box.

Bissell's pet odor spray, or something to that effect, is very good. You may have to cover the chair with clear plastic when no one is visiting. There must be a reason she is doing it. Either she has no cat box or it isn't clean enough for her or someone sat on it with cat urine on their pants, unknowingly. Human urine can do it too. You never know what is going on in someone's pants :) She's trying to protect you. . . sounds silly but is true; she marks her territory. Cats are really very persnickity clean. We just change their environment & mess the instinct up. As for the woman who had 8 cats, they probably didn't have a clean place to go. When I clean the cat box my couple of cats RUN to go in clean litter.

As a side bar to "throw it away" I cut up an entire full size sofa and its going in 4-5 trash bags except the metal innards going in a recycling bin. :vs_karate:

The chair is a fiber optic recliner. I have been using Natures Miracle and Clorox Urine Remover. They both have been working as far as taking the stain and odor out. However, her nose is better then mine and she continues to re soil it. She is sixteen years old and get urinary track infections quite often. I could just replace the chair, but I afraid she will just soil the new one as well. I can just continue what i been doing, but i don't want to just keep adding things to it but never extracting anything. I thought if I try to wet it down and then suck some out with a carpet cleaner that may help. I have a shop vac which may work but I don't know for sure.
