I have hardwired smoke alarms in my house. 4 in bedrooms/hallway upstairs, 1 on my main floor in my dining room and 1 in my basement. About 6 months ago my dining room and basement alarms started beeping once every 38 seconds. I installed new batteries but it wouldn't stop so I unhooked them. I am finally getting around to replacing them (I know I should have done it sooner). I hooked up brand new smoke alarms with new batteries in the dining room and basement and still a beep every 38 seconds. I took the battery out and the green light still stays on so I know they are getting power. The old alarms upstairs are all HBK and the new ones I bought are first alert. Does it matter that they are different brands? I'm assuming thats not the problem since the old ones were the same brand and had the same problem. I thought maybe they were beeping because the ones upstairs needed new batteries but that doesn't make sense because they aren't beeping indicating low battery. When I hooked up the new ones I tested them and they rang throughout the house. I'm really at wits end and just want them to be replaced correctly. Thanks for any help. (ps I also have another battery only alarm in the kitchen. Don't want a million replies saying I need one in there.) Thanks for your help.

I did not turn the electric off to replace the alarms. It was just a matter of unplugging and re plugging a wire harness. After the alarms were replaced and the beeping continued I turned off the main breaker then turned it back on but it didn't help.

Try disconnecting the Interconnect wire (neither Black nor White) at each detector. That way each detector stands alone and if one detector is causing the problem, you've isolated it.
