We put a baby gate along one side of the house to keep the toddlers and dog in the backyard. That gate isn't up to the task anymore (see attached photos) and I figured I should install a real gate now. I helped a friend install a fence gate last weekend, but that was between two wood posts - how do I install a fence gate between the side of the house with cedar siding and a concrete post (of a concrete fence)?

I would put the hinges on the concrete post so all you need at he house is a 2x4 to stop the gate.
If you buy a couple feet of the same siding, you can use that as wedges between the siding and 2x4 to make a flat surface to screw thru and get a good connection.

I would attach a 2x4 to the concrete post with 2 or 3 1/4" anchor bolts

Take these 2x4 ideas to the next level.

Do a half post matching the fence post. Cut it to match the pattern of the siding, or cut the siding so the post is recessed into the siding.

Then design and fabricate a gate that matches the fence and install.

That should be functional and really look like it belongs.
