I'm doing some framing for my in-laws and will be building a 10' wide soffit down the center of the garage. My issue is the garage door opener in one of the bays. It is about 3/4" of an inch from the ductwork that the soffit will cover. I've thought about it and cant come up with any ideas on how to build a slim soffit or move the opener. I'm pretty sure that I cant just move the opener over a few inches as it has to be in line with the door. I attached a picture as well. Thanks for the help in advance.

soffit

Depending on the height of the garage ceiling, you could drop the opener down below the duct work and build a frame support, cover it with the siffit, then screw the opener through the soffit into the framed support. This way the soffit is level from the duct work to the area past the opener. A little creative but would work. Good luck.
