Some of those sliding glass door lock comes with a keyed lock.

Are those keyed lock useful at all? Does having a key hole to those sliding door lock makes it easier to break in?

What is the best way to increase security of a sliding glass door besides laying a stick down the heel of the door and jamb?

The thumb/handle locks I've dealt with would not be considered high security . Not being rude , but the reason people use a board or dowel is because they are fairly effective .

If you decide to try some type of barrel bolt/other lock be very careful if you drill into the door or stationary panel . Metal screws can be extremely hard on glass !

OK , you didn't ask , but here's something else to consider : since you indicated you want to have a keyed lock , I assume you plan to use the p-door as a primary entrance . They rarely hold up like a hinged door .

Thanks. No I don't intend to use the sliding glass doors as primary entrances.

Right now to enter my house there is an exterior wood french door from the outside, which opens into an interior courtyard and the house "wraps around" the courtyard. Inside this courtyard there are eight entrances to different parts of the house. Three of them are standard keyed entrance doors, five of them are sliding glass doors. I am changing out the patio locks on all five of the sliding glass doors because one of them broke and the rest are in bad shape. They all have a key on the outside but I never used them. I was trying to decide to change them to the standard patio door lock with keys (like before) or without keys. Hence the question.
