Slate flooring

Hi I bought a house that has slate flooring in the kitchen and dinning room. I don't think it's sealed or coated. It always looks dirty and my kids feet are dirty from walking on it barefoot. Is it possible to put a coating on it that gives it a semi gloss sheen and looks clean? Thanks!

Hi Linda, welcome,

Yes you absolutely can and should apply a finish to slate tiles. Search for slate dressings and finishes at your local tile store. Someone might help you but you failed to indicate where you are.

Thanks! I'm in Parma Ohio. 😄I'm not very familiar with slate flooring. It looks pretty but after living with it and the uneven floors not sure if I like it at all. I think putting a coating or seal will make it more tolerable.

It's not the first choice for 99% of the people. Too dark, too soft, lots of maintenance, too rough. Well.. you know.

And brittle.
