I have removed the wall paper,
the walls are old wet plastered ( rough ) like Oh Boy! But they have been primed,
I plan on painting the lower half and papering the upper section

I need to skim the lower half to get a better smoother look.I want to add picture frame molding wainscoting
I want to skim coat the lower half But the question is will the Joint Compound stick to the primer ? if so after I skim coat I will need to prime again right ?
I plan on satin finish so show less roughness.

skimming that old wall ( continued )

Hi Plaster Buddies
Well I just wanted to let you all know I was successful in my attempt of skimming my first wall. My second coat is drying now. looks very nice, some sanding here and there. It took me a while to figure I was to light handed with my trowel leaving voids and skips trying to repair goofs, soon I got the knack To where I knew I would fix any errors on my second layer.
Thanks to the many youtube lessons too.

Now the next big job is the flooring then new railings.

Second coat is much smoother, and then the 3rd really makes it smooth.
I have had a few rough plaster texture jobs, they want a smooth no texture finish, has taken 4 coats.
But each coat gets smoother as you go.

Just a short note I had to try to do a finial coat to complete a smooth surface.
I watered down the mud J/C enough Rolled it on using a 3/4 " nap roller and used a squeegee to smooth the finial coat smooth as a babies butt. Cool !
