HI, I'm new at this but we've been doing a lot of painting and fixing since Ike hit in Sept. We've painted the whole house and my tub surrounds in both bathrooms look terribly yellowed now. Oh, I do live in a mobile home. I've been looking for some ideas on what I can replace or cover up the surrounds with. Big sheets of stuff would be the easiest so I could use whats up there now as my template. I saw Amy use some "sheets" of granite this morning on the show of a newly wed couple redoing their condo bathroom. But as usual when I go on the site I can't find what I'm looking for. I just need some suggestions.

Just get another surround. You will never get sheets to waterproof the area.

The surrounds I have looked at are either to big or to small and I'm afraid to cut them afraid of messing up the edge that seals. I have seen them use some solid sheet of something on bathroom renovations but never can quite catch the name of it. Very simple, which is what I need. Thank you for your reply.

As you are reading this, keep this in mind: I have absolutely no experience and just about that much knowledge when it comes to what you are asking about.

Having said that, I use to work in a big bakery (Sara Lee). They hung a certain kind of paneling on the walls in a couple of the cleaning/sanitation areas where hoses were used to clean the portable machinery. It was white and had a bubbley texture to it. I left there shortly after they put it up, so I can't say how well it held up. I saw the same stuff at Lowe's and Home Depot about 5 years ago. I also saw it used on the walls in a shower stall in the bathroom displays at Menard's.

That may be one product to use for very little money.

If you want something that's going to last and keep your walls waterproof for years, you'll want to use Kerdi. www.schluter.com There are some posts on this forum that talk about it. Look for it also in the Project Showcase forum. It's more expensive, but you won't ever have to replace it.

Thank you so much. will check out lowes & home depot for the material you spoke of. I just need something that will be white again. Now that we've painted the surround looks terrible, all yellow. I appreciate your help. Thank you.

coloirish-FYI-are the corners of your current tub surround curved or a fairly square corner? If they are curved keep in mind that if you buy flat sheets, you will have to either remove the curved surface or figure out how to curve the replacement panels. I've installed many of the new bath/shower "plastic" panel kits, either over existing panels of many sorts, over sheetrock (yes on a bath wall with shower), and all sorts of walls. These new "plastic" panels can be cut to fit, just plan ahead and allow an overlap. All "Liquid Nail" type construction adhesives cannot be used with these new "plastic" panels. Read the construction adhesive and they will tell you if they can be used with these panels. I use only a bath type caulk for the panels that contains a high amount of silicone, for adhesive purposes and mold resistance. Proper planning, proper fitting, will lead to a good installation that will last a long time. Good Luck, David

If you can't modify something made for the space, what makes you think you can fabricate something that's not?
Finding the link to, "sheets of granite" will do you no good. You will not be able to do anything with granite as it is not DIY friendly.
If the bath tub is not a standard size, try searching for products from the trailer's manufacturer. It should fit like it was planned.
