Newbie question for you experts. Please advise if a recessed shower can with trim needs to be connected to a GFI outlet in a bathroom. If so would the main light and a fan in the bathroom also need to be GFI protected. Thanks

A recessed light with the proper trim kit for a shower doesn't typically need GFCI protection. Nor would the fan if it is outside the shower or main light. That said you should always comply with any specific installation instructions from the manufacturer.
