I recently build a storage shed using preprimed Hardie panels. I purchased SW Duration paint. The SW salesman advised that I did not need to prime before applying this paint since it has a primer in the paint. Should I prime or not prime??
I always prime regardless. Duration is self-priming, but, to maximize performance I like primer under my paint. Another reason to prime in this instance is that Hardie Plank has had some issues with the factory applied primer. I believe there have been issues with flashing and dead spots in the finish coat that is applied over the Hardie Plank. Definitely do some research on this issue........you may even find some threads on that topic in other DIY forums.
I have used SW Duration as well as Dunn Edwards paints in similar senarios without a separate primer and with good results, but I will defer to those who perhaps have more experience than I. :surrender:
