The grout of the bathroom tiles in the top apartment of my house got cracked and the water got into the durant plaster, over time the tiles got knocked out on the side of the shower head and the adjacent wall. The other titles start to wobble because of the water leak. I decided to have a contractor to knock out the walls, install new durant plaster, tiles and fixtures. The apartment is a rental and I already have my tenants on a new lease.

The bathtub is pink in good condition. I'm thinking if I just might as well replace the perfect fine bathtub with a white bathtub while at it too. Or may be repaint the bathtub or replace the bathtub in the future in another project if it goes bad.

So far the contractor quotes me $350 to do all that (no bathtub replacement). I have spent $400 on the materials. Is my budget on the lower scale or am I going over for my project? If I decide to install a new bathtub, it will probably cost me $300-$400 more. I'm scratching my head over this. What do you guys think?

The prices you mentioned are rather small---I wonder where you live? Prices vary a lot by country or state----

I would either live with the pink tub or replace it.
Any method used to "paint" or refinish it will be delicate at best and would require a gentle non-abrasive cleanser.
I wouldn't count on a renter to follow proper care instructions. Not cared for properly it could very well end up looking worse than the pink.

I live in Chicago. When I said $300-$400 more I meant the bathtub cost but not including labor cost. I will have to ask my contractor to see how much he will charge.
