We have these gaps in the wood shingles / siding / facia

Do you seal these to keep bugs from making nests / getting into the house?* What do you use?*

For the gaps / recesses under the shingles, do you skip ones when the depth is less than x"?* And what's X?* That 1 gap by the gutter, I can stick a long tie wrap in there.

And that gap by the chimney - I think that's a piece of mortar?!

You can stuff some mesh in there or some back rod. Anything that big is not going to caulk well.

If I had to caulk under/behind the fascia I'd use backer rod. I wouldn't want to get into caulking underneath the shingles.

I would be more concerned with the the lack of paint on the fascia and bare wood.

Thanks! I forgot about backer rod (the foam stuff I used between the panels of my concrete driveway before i used sikaflex?

but I can imagine in some cases, there being a big area behind the gap and the backer just falls in?

Backer rod comes in different sizes although I have doubled up on it before.
