Sewage ejector pump was installed in finished basement bathroom. Sewer smell emanates in house at different times. Not always. On occasion (infrequent) when pump goes, a little water backs up though the washing machine line.

The ejector pump has a vent, looks to be vented to the side of the house. A sink and shower drain to the ejector, the washing machine does not. The drains work fine, when I run the sink, the water in the shower trap does move slightly up and down. I am trying to find out if this is a venting issue...and advice how to eliminate sewer smell would be greatly appreciated

If "...a little water [effluent] backs up though the washing machine line" when the ejector discharges, there may be some sort of blockage in the main building drain out to the sewer, or septic tank. If you do have a septic tank, when's the last time it was pumped out?

check vent from ejector....also if sewage is backing up into washing machine line ...thats not normal...should be checked out could be the source of the smell..ben sr

Thank you...some water...sometimes backs up through the washing machine drain line...seems like it from the pressure from the pump....not sewer water.....the ejecteor pit looks to be vented to the side of the house....the vent line does take 3 90 degree turns.... one a few feet from the pump than right angle towards the wall..then right angle up the wall and right angle out the house (I think it connected outside the house I can see entire internal syste, system)....

I agree that the water bubbling out of your washing machine standpipe may be the cause of the smell. Please post a picture of the ejector discharge tie in with relationship to the tie in from the laundry's gravity drain.

The washing machine ties into the cast iron main drain stack. It looks to be not in great shape. The cast iron vent was corroded. I caulked up good, helped.

The washing machine till backs up only on occasion when sewage pump ejects. Should I try a check valve?

In addition, the ejector pump ties into the same line as the washing machine. The washing machine empties into main stack does not go into ejector. But when ejector pumps, pressure pushes water back through washing machine line.
